Since it is not pretentious to the environmental conditions in our country, it has been successfully acclimatized and we can admire it in many parks or gardens, either as individual bushes or in the form of a hedge. Love light, which helps it to develop a very beautiful foliage, with intense colors and a pronounced yellow, but it also easily accommodates semi-shaded locations. The amount of light received positively influences the variegation of the leaves. Although it can withstand both the heat and the frosty winters in our country, it grows best at moderate temperatures, between 10 and 26 degrees Celsius. In areas with mild winters, it keeps its decorative foliage even in this season, but below the limit of minus 15 degrees, the roots risk freezing. It only needs a lot of water during the hot season, when a watering every 2-3 days is necessary to maintain the beauty of the foliage. During the rest of the year, it will be watered weekly, with the exception of winter when watering must be greatly reduced. Atmospheric humidity it is an asset in obtaining a rich and healthy foliage, but Euonymus japonicus easily adapts to locations with dry air. However, during the summer you will have to sprinkle it with water from time to time, to protect it from the attack of red spiders. It makes no demands on the cultivation substrate, so you can plant it almost anywhere in your garden. You will still be careful that the soil does not soak up the water, so as not to rot its roots. Just as it is not pretentious with the substrate in which it is grown, it will not issue any requirements regarding fertilization either. In rare cases, for specimens grown in pots, it is acceptable to use fertilizers for green plants and only in weak concentrations, applied at intervals of about 3 weeks. Blooming it rarely occurs in plants grown in pots, and is insignificant. The white flowers are small, star-shaped and appear at the beginning of summer. Propagation it is produced most often by separating the bushes and the saplings that appear at the root. It can also be multiplied by cutting the terminal shoots. The shoots taken in this way will be planted on a substrate of peat with the addition of sand, under conditions controlled by heat and humidity. The seedlings will be transplanted into the garden only after they form vigorous roots. If you want to keep it in the form of a hedge, you will have to cut it, every spring, to the desired level, because if it is left to grow uncontrolled, Euonymus japonicus Aureus can reach up to 2-3 m in height.
